The Pedrazzoli HB 450 SA (HB450SA) Horizon Brown is a semi-automatic upcut cold saw for ferrous metal cutting, including suitable steel tube, pipe, profiles and solid sections. A hydraulically fed blade rises through the table while vertical hydraulic clamping holds the workpiece during the cut. Choose it for straight and miter cutting where controlled feed, secure workholding and a rigid production machine matter.
Unlike a high-speed abrasive chop saw, the HB 450 SA uses a toothed circular blade, adjustable rotational speed and coolant. With the correct blade, feed and workholding, this approach can reduce burrs and heat discoloration and limit secondary grinding before welding or assembly. Cut quality depends on the application; inspect and deburr as required.

An upcut cold saw, also called an up-cut or up-stroking circular cold saw, brings a toothed circular blade up through the work table to cut the clamped material. For steel and other suitable ferrous applications, the HB 450 SA combines low-speed, gear-driven cutting, hydraulic blade feed and coolant rather than a high-speed abrasive wheel.
The blade teeth remove chips that carry away part of the cutting heat. Coolant supports lubrication and heat control, but the blade, chips and workpiece can still become hot. Follow the operating manual, keep guards in place and never assume a freshly cut part is safe to touch.
“Upcut” describes the blade movement, not which metals a machine can cut. Many high-speed upcut saws are designed for aluminum or other non-ferrous material. A steel-cutting application requires the appropriate blade, speed range, feed and clamping. Do not assume an aluminum-only saw is suitable for steel simply because it also uses an upcut motion.
For the HB 450 SA, specify the required 13–77 RPM or 24–144 RPM version with CML USA. For aluminum-focused production, compare the Perris 350 SA instead of selecting a machine on blade direction alone.
The HB 450 SA combines a 450 mm toothed blade, low-speed gear-driven cutting, controlled hydraulic feed and secure workholding. With the correct blade and settings, it can produce a smooth, machined-quality cut face on suitable steel tube, pipe and profiles—bringing the part closer to the next operation, rather than merely cutting it to length.
Instead of grinding through metal with an abrasive wheel, the blade teeth remove controlled chips. Precision-ground, hardened helical gears drive the blade, while hydraulic feed and a self-balancing valve support smooth blade advance. Vertical hydraulic clamping holds the workpiece against the table. The catalog lists a 2,600-pound machine with a reinforced welded base; rigid construction and proper setup help resist movement and vibration during the cut.
Finish comes from the complete setup—not blade size alone. The large blade provides cutting capacity; blade condition, tooth geometry, speed, feed, coolant and clamping determine the finish. Lower RPM is not automatically better: choose the correct setting within the ordered 13–77 RPM or 24–144 RPM configuration. “Mill-like” describes the potential cut appearance, not a guaranteed surface-roughness value or a replacement for finish machining where specified.
Add support tables to the infeed and outfeed sides to help move long or heavy stock into and away from the cutting area. Properly aligned supports keep material level with the saw table, reduce repeated lifting and repositioning, and support both the workpiece and cut section to help prevent sagging or tipping.
Support tables are optional. Specify material length, section, weight, cut lengths and available floor space. Match the supports to the saw’s listed 42-inch working height and confirm load ratings, leveling and mounting with CML USA. Tables assist material handling; they do not replace the machine’s clamps or provide automatic feeding by themselves.
Evaluate the whole job: loading, positioning, cutting, deburring, checking and fit-up. The value of a heavy-duty upcut cold saw is a clean cut combined with a well-supported workflow—not just the time the blade spends in the material.
Consider the HB 450 SA for preparing steel tube and pipe for weldments, cutting profiles for frames and railings, and producing repeated straight or mitered components. For stainless steel or solid material, have CML USA match blade specification, speed, feed and clamping to the actual alloy and section. Do not assume the round-profile capacity also applies to solid bar.
For occasional small cuts, a manual Super Brown cold saw may be sufficient. Compare the HB 450 SA when you need an upcut layout, hydraulic workholding or a larger round-profile envelope. For larger sections, also review Pedrazzoli metal-cutting band saws.

Capacity note: use the chart for the specific shape and angle. The catalog summary and detail pages differ on one 60-degree round capacity; obtain factory confirmation for that application rather than relying on a rounded maximum.
Compare the specified machine—not just the brand name. These published figures help steel-fabrication buyers compare the Pedrazzoli HB 450 SA with two industrial circular cold saws in a similar size class. They are not a side-by-side cutting test or a statement that the machines have identical configurations.

Capacity is application-specific. A round-section figure is not a promise that every solid bar, alloy or wall thickness can be cut at that size. Compare the same material, shape, cut angle and quality requirement. Published weights may vary with accessories and configuration; greater weight alone does not prove greater accuracy, blade life or output.
The HB 450 SA combines a 450 mm blade, a listed 5.9-inch straight-cut round envelope, hydraulic upcut feed and substantial construction. Against the published TUS 425 HA figures, it has a larger blade, a larger round cutting envelope and a higher listed machine weight. It also gives U.S. buyers access to CML USA application guidance, parts support and blade-sharpening assistance.
The KKS 450 U has the same nominal blade diameter and comparable published round capacity, but its brochure lists a larger straight-cut square capacity. The TUS 425 HA lists a higher motor rating than the HB 450 SA and a different clamping arrangement. These differences deserve consideration; neither motor power nor maximum capacity alone determines which saw produces your parts most effectively.
Do not compare RPM directly with meters per minute. Pedrazzoli publishes the HB 450 SA blade-speed options in RPM; the competing literature also uses peripheral cutting speed in m/min. A meaningful speed comparison must account for blade diameter and the selected drive configuration.
Ask each supplier to quote the electrical version, blade and tooth pitch, clamping, coolant system, material supports, measuring or feeding equipment, training, warranty, freight and delivery. Then evaluate the same sample material for finished length, squareness, burrs, miter fit and complete handling-and-cutting time. The much larger Trennjäger PMC 12L is a different size class and is not treated here as a direct HB 450 SA equivalent.

The HB 450 SA is a low-speed circular upcut cold saw for suitable metal profiles and solids, including steel applications. It should not be confused with a high-speed aluminum-only upcut saw. Blade material, tooth pitch, RPM, feed and clamping must match the metal and section being cut.
Yes. The saw provides straight and miter cutting with angle adjustment inside the table base. Workpiece capacity changes with section shape and angle; send your required miter and dimensions for confirmation.
No. The semi-automatic cutting cycle and hydraulic blade movement are separate from material feeding. Confirm any stock-positioning equipment or integration separately. Optional infeed and exit supports with a stock stop are listed in the catalog.
Use the correct speed range for the blade diameter, alloy, section and wall thickness. Stainless steel and mild steel may require different settings. The two published RPM ranges describe different configurations; CML USA can help specify the version and blade for your work.
Send the material grade, tube or profile dimensions, wall thickness or solid-section size, cut lengths, miter angles, tolerance, pieces per shift and shop power. Ask for a sample-cut review of finish, squareness, burrs and total handling time, not only blade travel time.
