Semi-Automatic Band Saws for Metal Cutting

BROWN SN 420 SA

Pedrazzoli Brown SN 420 SA semi-automatic horizontal band saw

Pedrazzoli semi-automatic band saws give fabrication shops more consistent cuts with less operator handling. The Brown SN 420 SA combines a hydraulic vise, controlled bow movement, automatic bow return and dual-direction mitering in a heavy cast-iron machine built for tube, pipe, profiles and other metal-cutting work.

With round capacity up to 11 inches at 90°, the SN 420 SA bridges the gap between a manual gravity-feed saw and a fully automatic production machine. The operator positions the material and starts the cycle; the saw controls the cutting movement and returns the bow to its starting position while the vise remains closed.

Pedrazzoli machines are sold and supported in the United States by CML USA in Davenport, Iowa. Customers can see machines under power, obtain replacement blades and parts, and work with factory-trained service technicians.

Brown SN 420 SA Semi-Automatic Horizontal Band Saw

The Brown SN 420 SA is designed for accurate sawing of ferrous and nonferrous tube, pipe and structural profiles. Its heavy cast-iron base helps reduce vibration during the cut, supporting better squareness, longer blade life and a smoother finish.

The machine can operate in either manual or semi-automatic mode. In semi-automatic operation, a flow regulator controls bow descent speed, the hydraulic vise secures the workpiece, and the bow returns to the start position after the cut. The foot pedal starts the semi-automatic cycle so the operator can keep both hands available for material handling.

For frame, tube and fabrication work, the saw head miters in both directions—up to 60° left and 45° right. A large circular table rotates with the bow so the workpiece remains well supported through miter cuts.

When Should You Choose a Semi-Automatic Band Saw?

A semi-automatic band saw is a strong fit when a shop makes repeated cuts but does not need automatic stock feeding. Compared with a manual saw, it reduces the number of actions the operator performs during every cut. Compared with a fully automatic saw, it offers a simpler and more economical solution for varied lengths, changing profiles and lower-volume production.

Typical users include structural fabricators, tube and pipe shops, weld shops, maintenance departments, machine builders and job shops. The Brown SN 420 SA is particularly useful when the work includes both straight cutoff and mitered parts.

Manual, Semi-Automatic or Fully Automatic?

Saw type Best for Operator involvement Pedrazzoli option
Manual / gravity feed Occasional cuts, maintenance and lower-volume work Operator positions and resets the saw for each cut SN 300 Newton
Semi-automatic Repeated cuts, varied lengths and miter work Operator positions stock; the machine controls the cutting cycle and bow return Brown SN 420 SA
Fully automatic Long production runs of repeated parts Machine feeds stock and repeats programmed cuts Ask CML USA about the appropriate production cutting system

Semi-Automatic Band Saw or Circular Cold Saw?

Choose a band saw when you need flexibility across larger sections, solids and mixed profiles, or when material size exceeds the practical capacity of a cold saw. Choose a circular cold saw when fast cycle time and a burr-free, weld-ready finish are the highest priorities on tube and profiles.

Many fabrication shops use both: a semi-automatic horizontal band saw for large or changing sections and a cold saw for fast, finished cutoff work. CML USA can review the material, wall thickness, cut angle and production volume before recommending the best process.

U.S. Parts, Blades, Demonstrations and Service
